“Qahwa” 2008 black Dakar dim. cm 40 x 40 x1
In arabic language Qahwa means coffee but in a wider more metaphorical context it means “that which rises” it’s this short but significant phrase which inspired the carving on this piece of north African stone which is dark rough and mysterious just like coffee.
The aroma radiated by a simple coffee bean rises high to inebriate a young voluptuous woman and just as the strong ancient drink would, it arises inside her passion and strength.
A young lady lies leisurely offering a cup of the steaming bitter drink to the highest divinities in order that they will always look favourably down upon mankind .
