THE GATE OF MEN / THE GATE OF THE GODS.

On the faces of the stele there is the representation of two themes. The summer solstice or the gate of men and the winter solstice or the gate of the gods. The images represent allegorical themes influenced by ancient symbology and archetypal themes of different cultures from around the world, such as Greek, Celtic, Chinese and Roman etc. without of course omitting the cultural context of where the sculpture will be placed. The two main figures are the goddess Demeter who represents the summer solstice and the god Janus who represents the winter solstice. This is an artistic journey that aims to bring together different populations through symbology which in reality belongs to every inhabitant on earth, a bridge, in a historical moment, which connects people who evermore have the need to find dialogue and integration. The stele is born with the objective to be touched and observed by whoever wants to deepen their relation with the opera as bas relief on stone particularly lends its self to tactile recognition giving people with sight problems the possibility to “see” the opera in its entirety.
